Former KISS Guitarist Says He Knows The 'Human' Side Of GENE SIMMONS

Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, who was shot recently in Los Angeles after attending a VINCE NEIL show on the Sunset Strip, spoke to Electric Basement about working with someone like KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons, whose primary motivation seems to be making money.

"I know the human side of Gene as well," Bruce said. "There's more to him, and he does have a generous streak. There is a kind side too, but the driven side is what fuels him the most though in his career and how to make money. That is something that really runs him, but I do know Gene's other side, and once you're in the inner circle — traveling and working with him, you can start to have more fun. I very much appreciated him calling me the way he did the morning after [I was shot] as well. That was a really sweet thing. Paul [Stanley] called later that same day, but I missed his call.

Kulick also explained his sense of divine intervention when he survived wounds from the shooting incident.

"I always feel like I'm on a mission through my music and making people enjoy my guitar playing," he said. "I value all my good friendships which I've recently seen come back tenfold. People were even arranging their schedules around helping care for me that first week. That was important because I'm not married, and I'm not in a serious relationship to have anybody there for me either. My parents, honestly, are elderly and they're in a nice assisted living facility, so I can't rely on them, and my brother has to work even though he was willing to do it. Actually, I prefer female caretakers, so these friendships have been really important. Receiving all those emails and well wishes also make me even more enthusiastic about seeing my fans again and playing guitar. Yesterday, I did a session that had been postponed two weeks with my brother for this record, and it was great just to sit there and play. It was wonderful." Read the whole interview here.
